Understanding Macros in Ad Tags

Our ad tag detection and macro insertion service simplifies the process of preparing your third-party ad tags for optimal performance and tracking with ad:personam. This user-friendly service automatically identifies the type of ad tag you're work.

Macros, such as "${CLICK_URL}", are special placeholders used within ad tags. They are not JavaScript variables, but are instead replaced by the ad server with actual values when the ad is served.

Click tracking and cache busting macros like "${CLICK_URL}" allow third-party ad servers to track clicks and associate them with the correct campaign details in ad:personam. When clicked, the creative first directs users to the ad:personam ad server (to record the click) before redirecting them to the advertiser's URL.

Types of Tags We Can Detect:

We recognize a variety of ad tag types from major ad servers, including but not limited to:

  • Campaign Manager 360 JavaScript and INS tags
  • i-frame/JavaScript tags
  • Sizmek tags
  • Adform tags

Using pattern recognition, our service can identify these tags based on their unique characteristics.

Generic Replacements Performed:

For each recognized tag type, our service performs tailored transformations to insert crucial tracking macros such as `${CLICK_URL}` for click tracking and `${CACHEBUSTER}` to replace timestamp markers. This ensures your ad tags accurately track clicks and impressions without any manual adjustments.

Click URL Insertion: Automatically inserts the `${CLICK_URL}` macro to enable precise click tracking.

Timestamp Replacement: Replaces any existing timestamp placeholders with the `${CACHEBUSTER}` macro to ensure each ad impression is uniquely logged.

For Unrecognized Tags:
Should your ad tag not match any of the predefined types, our service will still attempt generic transformations. This includes inserting the `${CLICK_URL}` macro and replacing timestamp markers, ensuring your tag is ready for use even if its type isn't specifically identified.

User Process

  1. Insert Your Ad Tag: Paste your ad tag into the provided input field.
  2. Detect Tag Type: Utilize the "Detect Tag Type" feature to identify your ad tag’s format automatically.
  3. Insert Macro: With the tag type identified, click "Insert Macro" to apply necessary macro transformations.
  4. Use Your Transformed Tag: Copy and use the modified ad tag for your third party creative uploads, equipped with enhanced tracking features.

Note : While our service covers a wide range of tag types and performs essential transformations, there might be instances where a tag's unique format requires additional attention. Not all ad tags are standardized, and specific cases may need further customization. Should you encounter any issues or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact ad:personam support. Our team is here to ensure your ad tags are correctly configured for optimal performance and tracking.
